Where were you on your first Thanksgiving and Christmas in the Military?
1976—NORAD Combat Operation Center, Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. 1900 feet deep in the solid granite mountain.
We had our own Dining Hall. Great food anytime!
I started Boot Camp 10NOV56 so I was still enough in awe to not really ‘care’ about Thanksgiving.
I do think we were allowed a couple days leave at Christmas as we were nearer Graduation.
Yes, the ‘F BOMB’ woke a lot of ‘family members’ when used freely....
Even though they all had (probably) heard it, having ‘dear, sweet ___’ use it and they knew they had ruined your life forever.
Fast forward 60 years and little kids use it more than please or thank you.....
that’s funny, i did the same thing at dinner time the day after i got back from Viet Nam. my parents were agast, my sister just smiled.
The Major reportedly haunted pad Charlie 24. Never saw him, but heard the tale. . . .
