Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team investigating whether President Donald Trump sought to obstruct a federal inquiry into connections between his presidential campaign and Russian operatives has now directed the Justice Department to turn over a broad array of documents.
In particular, Mueller's investigators are keen to obtain emails related to the firing of FBI Director James Comey and the earlier decision of Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the entire matter, according to a source who has not seen the specific request but was told about it.
Issued within the past month, the directive marks the special counsel's first records request to the Justice Department, and it means Mueller is now demanding documents from the department overseeing his investigation.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein played key roles in Comey's removal. And Sessions has since faced withering criticism from Trump over his recusal and Rosenstein's subsequent appointment of Mueller.
Mueller's investigators now seek not only communications between Justice Department officials themselves, but also any communications with White House counterparts, the source said. Before this request, investigators asked former senior Justice Department officials for information from their time at the department, ABC News was told.
The latest move suggests the Special Counsel is still actively digging into, among other matters, whether Trump or any other administration official improperly tried to influence an ongoing investigation.

It appears the Special Counsel is becoming an obstructionist hampering the Administration from doing it’s Constitutional job.
Would firing Mueller and his hacks constitute “influencing” the investigation??? (/s)
More leaks???
I’m stunned!
Mueller is hell bent on indicting Trump on something. Obstruction of justice even through there is no evidence of Russian collusion and Mueller’s ongoing investigation. The mind reels......
It appears that President Trumps forgotten how to fire an unsatisfactory employee
Let’s see...DOJ reports to the Special Counsel instead of Special Counsel reports to the DOJ. WTF have you done, Sessions...you worthless piece of human excrement.
Awaiting the imminent arrival of those claiming this is all part of some master plan of Sessions and that we have to just wait.
this sounds desperate.
Comey serves at the pleasure of the president.
President Trump....that’s right, liberals....PRESIDENT Trump....had the right to fire Comey and should have done so on January 20th.
Bingo! Everything is upside down. Mueller is looking for a crime rather that investigating one, which begs the question as to why he was illegally appointed.
>this sounds desperate.
They’re going to throw everything and the kitchen sink at Trump and his relatives. They tested the waters with that BS inditement of Manafort and didn’t receive strong push back. Now they’re going for the whole coup.
Doubt that. There are too many dominoes that would fall on the President if he fired that j@ck@$$. The President has to wait.
So they accuse you of something you didn’t do, and when they can’t prove it, they convict you of obstructing the investigation they fabricated.
In other words the MSM is now trading in second hand gossip and reporting it as "news."
And named source or sources for any of this? ???? I skimmed the rest of the article. Bulls*** hit piece. Last bit:
A spokesman for Mueller declined to comment for this article. A spokeswoman for the Justice Department also declined to comment.
I agree....this is less about the special counsel having something and more of them desperately seeking for something because they cant find anything. Collusion isnt a federal crime, its a political matter but not that sinister; now if Trump and Co were conspiring to commit illegal activities (them telling Russians to hack into Podesta emails...etc) then that would be something like conspiracy to commit a crime. But alas we were never there because its apparently Seth Rich was the one leaking Hillary/DNC emails and Trump never committed any crime
Next week they will investigate whether Trump obstructed the investigation into whether Trump obstructed the investigation into Russia collusion. And so on. In software we would call this a this is a recursive investigation.
Yes and no. He hired him ( which was even then a bad decision) and he can fire him. Yes, the Lindsay and McShames will get their panties in a bunch
