And I dont buy this argument that allowing them to be hunted without restriction makes them safer.
No one is for allowing them to be hunted without restrictions.
Elephant herds are matriarchal, IIRC.
If it meant keeping them going extinct, yes, I would support sending troops to protect them. Our troops have protected worse.
Thankfully, I’m hearing that the President is delaying this policy of allowing the elephants to be hunted. I hope it’s permanently.
So what else is regulated in Zimbabwe ? I’d love to see the papers the Interior Department was given to authorize this. Because the Endangered Species Act allows hunting trophies to be imported only if the federal government finds that killing them positively enhances the survival of the species. How can one of the most corrupt countries on earth possibly be managing its elephant population in a sustainable manner ? Especially given that government officials been involved in both poaching of elephants and illegal export of ivory tusks.
I Trump waited for “everyone to be comfortable that the timing was right”, he’d be getting zero done instead of working tirelessly despite all the opposition and those who get “uncomfortable”....
Allowing importation of trophies puts the incentives in place to regulate elephant populations sustainably.
It is hard to see how it could make the situation worse. Zimbabwe has had periods where management worked, even under Mugabe.
Under Obama, the practice had been banned because of a lack of data on conservation efforts in Zimbabwe. So there is data now ?
Obama did a lot of bad things.
I’m asking where the data is buried, which the Humane Society cannot seem to find either.
I am glad to see he reversed his decision.
I wish he would have never brought the attention to it but in the end, I believe he will prove to be on the right side of the issue. Keep the ban in place.
LOL
Maybe this will help:
Oh, well, since YOU don’t buy that argument I guess that settles it.
Nevermind what the experts in charge of helping the elephants said.
