Franken has admitted it, and as with most sexual harassers, there are probably more victims. And for the record, asking girls out on a date, is NOT sexual harassment. When I was single, guys I wasn’t interested in asked me out. It’s not a crime, even if the guy’s older than me. Creeps some girls out, while others are fine with it. But asking someone out, is not a crime. When I was a teenager, there was ONE shoe store at our mall. We liked the shoes, but it was creepy because the manager always waited on the teenage girls, and would inappropriately stroke our legs while fitting the shoes. THAT was creepy behavior. Once was enough for me. I told my sister, and she said, “everybody knows that creep always does that. Don’t go in there, again, if he’s there.” Who were we going to complain to? He was the manager. We couldn’t complain to our dads; we were certain they would literally, have killed the guy, and being inexperienced young teens, we figured that would be more embarrassing than it was worth, plus our dad would go to jail. My dad was not a mean guy, but I’m pretty sure he would have gone down there and pulverized the guy.

We all need a cyber-group hug, right about now.

Things get said with no ill intent simply because the experience is not understood by those unaffected.

But we’re all on the same team, on FR.

I don’t know how old you are, but sexual harassment of women after “liberation” (in the late 60s, when large numbers of women began to to to college and work outside the home) but before meaningul sex assault legislation was developed was very common and seen as an entitlement by many men, just for the fact that you were not at home with your father or husband. And so the words for “assault” were not even part of the lexicon.

While a flirty come-on was called a “pass”, so was “a pass that got nasty.” After that there were “he tried to rape me” or “he raped me.” Until the 90s, there was no codified legal concept of “sexual assault” (groping that did not result in penetration) or “date rape” (intimate partner overwhelming a woman over her objections after or because she had permitted kissing or fondling).

Nice women were the ones expected to say “no” to sex, and nice men were expected to respect that. If they didn’t, the woman bore all the gullt, shame and unwanted pregnancy.

Excellent response!

I had a similar experince. Walked into a meeting room to deliver a message to my boss during a sales meeting with 7 salesmen. The youngest 20 something salesman says, Gee, just what size bra do you wear, a double D? I responded, Gee, just what size jock strap do you wear, an extra small? His face turned red and I could almost see the steam rising from his head. The boss and other salesmen were falling out of their chairs with laughter. I walked out with my head held high and a smile on my face.

I was crudely propositioned a few times growing up in the San Francisco area as a teenage boy. The predator homos were very aggressive. I never “reported” anything and just brushed it off. No long term damage here. LOL.

Because a man can sock another man in the jaw and walk away. A woman who is cornered by a boss or a realtor when showing her a house or her husband's friend who came over to "help" her when her husband is in Afghanistan is not in the same free and powerful position.

It was in response to her insult and attack on me.

We're on here talking about real-life hands-on assaults or unwanted penetrations that some of your freeper sisters have endured, an you feel "attacked" by some words?

Okay.

Count me among those who used to listen to the old Lee Rodgers show on KSFO with Officer Vic and Melanie Morgan. The show was hilarious from the conservative POV and they owned the AM drive time market in and out of the Bay Area. Melanie is and was a hard ass conservative and I sure as hell recall her relentlessly going after Franken back in the day. Nobody was listening CLOSELY in those days particularly when it was a known conservative woman charging a libtard alleged male perp.

Me too ... Melanie is NO Gloria All Red lover. I absolutely believe her. I spoke with her face to face at a demonstration in South Sac where a couple had hung a US soldier in effigy. I actually was shown on Hannity walking in front of the offending house carrying an American flag

As far as Melanie ... I would wager good money that she is being completely honest about this

Franken’s a big Clinton fan - and the Clinton’s are being thrown under the bus...

While a flirty come-on was called a “pass”, so was “a pass that got nasty.”

If someone carried things beyond a pass, then somebody would indeed likely be getting his lights punch out - or, her hair pulled out by somebody’s wife.
I grew up with pass = flirting, between both sexes. What you might cite as a “pass that got nasty” would’ve have been labeled either attempted rape or rape in my time.
Interesting how terms can have different meaning depending on the person.

God bless you and keep you. I am SO sorry for all of that.

I appreciate it; but it did not compare to your experience. Annoying, frightening, demeaning and disgusting as the casual harrassment I experienced was, it was very common for many of my women friends and co-workers in the city and corporate environment, and I just had to regard it as the cost of doing business, as long as it never got violent or penetrative.

As these stories are coming out now, I am, however, looking back and realizing how endemic it was and how it did cause me to lose some work opportunities and feel more afraid than many of the tone-deaf men on this thread can imagine. My standard of living in retirement has been lowered due to my boss's harassment and my having to leave a good job. I changed churches when my pastor started dropping by without his wife. There were costs, and many, many women have endured this b******t.

I believed then and believe now that the so-called Sexual Revolution was part of the worldwide socialist movement, and that the last approximately fifty years of the breaking down of traditional marriage, family life and heterosexual norms, plus the rise of available porn, have caused a spike in this activity. Sex abuse has always happened to individuals, but I do think there is more of it and it is more frequent now. The current outpouring of tattling is healthy and necessary. It's a shame it has taken so long.

Because the evil Democrats and RINOs wanted to do evil by shaming their enemies as sex abusers, God is using it to do good. I think more women and children will be believed now; and the same social media that is exposing abusers is also more able to expose the liars and fakers, like we see with the Roy Moore yearbook forgery.

I realize that some men have been and will be unjustly accused, and that is always a crime and a tragedy; but against the sheer numbers of women abused, they are a much smaller percentage of the population.

In terms of sheer statistics, I think over the next decade, the numbers of false accusations will drop because the lies are now more easily documented by social media, and the numbers of casual abusers will also drop, because this "outing" of outrageous behavior is taking place.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite jobs was furniture finisher in a factory full of guys.

4-12am, it was just all of us and they were always polite.

One guy who always wore a camo hunting hat took it upon himself to watch over me.

Ironically, only *once* did I have an issue...with the guy my father had tasked with watching over me, one of his “good” ex-cons from the prison.

He sashayed over at break time, one night, and pressed me back against my work bench.
I’ll never forget his stupid come-on “I may be married but I still fool around”.

I just smiled and jabbed him in the gut with the pointy end of the bastard file I was holding and said “I’m not fooling around.”.

After he ran off, I looked over and Camo Hat was red in the face, trying not to laugh out loud.

At 15 [after the first Dobe] I decided this crap was NOT gonna happen again.

I may not be very big or bad but God as my witness, a guy tries to paw me [or worse] and one of is gonna bleed out on the sidewalk because I will *not* go quietly.

I’m so sorry for what you had to go through. No one should have to endure such behavior, and then to not be believed as a child just adds insult to injury and makes it difficult to trust anyone.

I pray that you are able to find peace.

As I have often said, what was done *to* me was nowhere near as bad as what was *not* done, *for* me.

It’s one thing to be hurt by some pervert and totally another to be betrayed by the ones sworn to protect you.

And thank you.

SO many people on FR have given so much help, comfort and peace, over the years, you cannot imagine.

God bless you all for that, and I love you like family.

:)

No damage here either. But I worked as a cocktail waitress and then a bartender for 20 years. Believe me, I’ve heard it all and seen a lot of it. Lol. I have very thick skin.
