It was written, but covered everything and was said in a quavering voice the entire time. I heard no bravado in it. Maybe he has learned about the probable consequences of conviction in China in the days since their stupid actions. Only time will tell if he changes his life or continues to be a privileged (no accountability) top athlete.
At least he can read.
So we know he can read, if given time to prepare.
