This beauty queen became a sanitation worker

This is one beauty queen who doesn’t mind being called trashy.

Pageant veteran Nicole Doz — the first runner-up for Miss Staten Island 2017 — has added a sanitation worker uniform to her wardrobe of sashes. And the 23-year-old is doing it all for the love of New York City.

“That’s why I took the job!” she told The Post. “It’s not the most glamorous look, but that doesn’t mean [the job’s] not awesome.”

And getting to her new title of street sweeper was even more grueling than going through talent, interview and swimsuit contests. There’s “the physical test, the medical test,” Doz said. “And a timed obstacle course where you have to lift and maneuver weighted bins around to simulate the actual day-to-day work.” She practiced by hitting the gym with her dad, John, an 18-year employee of the NYC Department of Sanitation.

Those guys who drive the street sweepers as part of the alternate side of the street parking ticket scam that the city uses every day to scam millions of dollars from car owners make $90,000 a year and that was 20 years ago. A guy who drove one told me so as a cop was putting a ticket on my car giving the city “permission” yet again to steal my money.

Something about the "elites" that causes so many problems is the way the demean work. If the "work" isn't highly intellectual, requiring years of education, they consider it to be beneath them.

I'm a huge supporter of the work of Mike Rowe and John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers, who happens to be an inventor,) who have worked to expand the viability and status of skilled professions.

But even unskilled work has great value, in that it can lead to skilled work, if the worker has the will to put in the effort, and take some risks.
