Romney's statement is undeniably true. In an election, voters can use any benchmark they want. Many people use party affiliation. Others use policy positions. Some many look at the color of a candidate's skin, other may evaluation the content of a candidate's character. Hell, a voter can base his decision on whether or not he likes a candidate's shoes.
"Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections."
While you are correct, and that it is one thing that a person can make a voting decision on any criteria, it is another thing entirely to encourage a uniquely un-American concept -- that innocent until proven guilty does not matter.
I’d say it is true in theory but if you have one party that will lie, cheat and steal this plays RIGHT IN THERE HANDS...
Whatever.
When you call for someone to step down from actually allowing voters to decide, then you’re assuming guilt of something before all the facts are in.
