How about putting it in your own pocket, or in the trunk of your squad car? I sure as heck wouldn’t mingle it with any of the suspect’s other possessions. That’s against every last rule of evidence-handling, and doesn’t make any sense...unless you were trying to frame someone.

And what if the packaging leaks? I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t want it leaking on my fingers, either, so putting it in the suspect’s wallet seems sensible.

You mean like when they put all the evidence in AN EVIDENCE BAG and let it mingle ? What specific items do you believe should not be allowed to mingle in an evidence bag with other items ? Is there a list somewhere ?
