14 years old is a minor. I don’t care if I was imprecise. I’m not well-versed on these things. Why don’t you believe Judge Moore?

14 years old is a minor.

"Minor" is a legal term. Under law, one leaves childhood and the age of minority, and enters adulthood and the age of majority. This age has varied widely, both historically and even regionally within the United States. Historically speaking, females marrying in their mid-teens has been the norm and thus the laws regarding age of consent, i.e. age of majority at which point one is legally capable of consenting, has been set in the mid-teens. The age of consent in Alabama right up to 2003 was 14. Therefore, a 14 year old was not a minor in Alabama in 1979. If you find it offensive that a 32 year old male went out with and possibly kissed a 14 year old female in 1979 Alabama, you're going to have to find some basis other than a legal one for that offense.
