As was said in high schools around the country in the 70s, “15 will get you 20!” IOW, going too far with someone below 16 gets you a long prison term. Of course, when I was in high school, during the 70s, there were gals who were 14 going on 20, and who had fake ID cards to match.
What she described is also out of synch with what the older girls described.
And FWIW, I went TDY with a lot of guys in their 30s who had no hesitation about trying to “score” with an 18 year old. Married guys in their 30s. I didn’t approve, but I was usually along as the designated driver. And no one wanted to know what this Baptist thought of their activities.
This horse pucky about guys in their 30s being too mature to look at a 17 year old is...horse pucky! Heck, if I wasn’t married, I would not have ruled out spending some time with a good-looking 18 year old.
Knowingly do ANYTHING with a 14 year old? Not a chance in hell! But the idea that a guy in his 30s could be interested in a woman below 25...
Well, John McCain, in 1980 you were 44. Cindy McCain was 26 in the year you married. Let’s see. That is 18 years difference. So when Cindy was 14, John would have been...32. Perhaps more to the point, when John McCain was 36, she would have been...18.

And that 1979 was a long time ago, and there IS no “corroborating evidence”. Not when it is all “he said, she said” - and NONE of the “shes” said squat during the next 38 years! 38 years while the supposed predator was extremely visible in Alabama politics.
