Based on his social media profiles, Boucher was fervently anti-Trump and anti-Republican. Seven neighbors think the landscaping excuse is bogus as does Sen. Paul...

I understand being cautious about assigning motive until the facts provide one, but what’s left here? Clearly, everyone, including Paul believe the defendant’s excuse is just that.

More frightening than the attack itself is the relative neglect this story has received. The press ought to be knocking down doors trying to get to the bottom of this. A lawmaker attacked in his own homes and for what look to be politically motivated reasons is no small occurrence and the latest troubling development in the normalization of violent behavior aimed at differing opinions.

Who is the judge that set the bail so low and charged him with a misdemeanor?

An attack on any sitting Senator should be a serious offense—Imagine if this was Chuck Shummer hit by a conservative NRA Member—? What would the media do? Go Bat Sh*t Crazy.

He’s is a Senator— it is a Federal Crime. Where is/are the Federal Prosecutors in Kentucky. Rand Paul (and/or his people) should be bringing charges to a Federal Prosecutor. The facts are not in contention— the guy attacked/assaulted a US Senator. If he was a foreign national, it would be even more so.

FReepers here familiar with US Code— chime in— this IS a federal crime- a serious one... is it NOT? This cannot be ignored, because the press doesn’t talk about it.

stupid GOPe people like McCain are buying into it.

McCain is not stupid. He is not “buying into it”.

He heartily approves of it. He is part of the deep state.

Boucher should be charged with attempted murder.

An attack on any sitting Senator should be a serious offense

Assaulting, kidnapping, or assassinating the president or vice president became a federal crime after the JFK assassination.

Assaulting, kidnapping, or assassinating a member of Congress became a crime offense after the RFK assassination.

If there's physical contact, or a deadly weapon is used, or serious injury occurs, assault goes from misdemeanor to felony.

"...death penalty should be an option for anyone who attacks ANY elected official..."

The congress and senate folks feel pretty darn special about themselves already.
This crackpot Kentucky resident should be charged with multiple felonies, yet no more than if you or I were similarly attacked by Dr. Rand Paul’s crazy neighbor.

This is strictly a wild card thought....Not to be repeated but noted as tinfoil speculation the way its playing out...

Did Rand know the neighbors wife....and how well did he know her?

Any charge less than attempted murder when the victim gets 6 broken ribs and a plural effusion and is a senior citizen, regardless of position as a senator, is wrong.

Because the assailant knew the victim was a sitting senator the “special circumstances clause” such as a hate crime should come into play especially since we now know this was a politically motivated attack.

The charge should be attempted murder with hate crime attached.

"...how well does he know Boucher’s wife..."

That is wild speculation, of course.
It still does not excuse Boucher’s demented violence.

And there should be no doubt that those of today would round us up and haul us off if they could do so.

But this time we are armed.

Everybody always wants to know where the crazies are before they take to mass murdering people.

They live among us. They are our neighbors. They are our family. They are our friends or co-workers.

Anyone prone to deadly violence out of the blue like this assaulter of Sen. Paul, is just over the line from killing a bunch of people out of anger or more likely, mental illness.

This guy is one of those people. He needs to be taken off the streets before he escalates to the next step.
