Democrat turnout was down 576,000 since the Presidential election.
Gillespie didnt fire up the base or the MAGA vote.
Gillespie got more votes than any GOP gubernatorial candidate in VA history and the second most votes all time. Gillespie's vote total would have won every race since 1949 except this one.
the fact Jill outperformed Gillespie, proves MAGA outperforms GOPe...
Why did Romney receive 53,000 more votes in 2012 than Trump did in 2016?
Personally if the #2 outperformed the top of the ticket 2.5 points, not all that hard to believe hat MAGA been at the top of the ticket in the first place that a 4 point swing in the race would not be impossible, and a 4 point swing, the R wins....
LOL. If ifs and buts were like candy and nuts, what a fine world we would have. Vogel lost by 140,000 votes. It wasn't close.
So I dont buy that VA is unwinable... Just have to have the right folks running with the right message.... the GOPe made sure that wasnt going to happen.
You were woefully wrong this time in your predictions and you will be again in the future. I told you what would happen. Hear me now, believe me later.
It wasn’t closed because Gillespie ran a Jeb Bush GOPe campaign in the age of Trump. Secondary races don’t drive turnout... Lt. Gov did better than Gov... about 2.5% better. Not only that, but she did better in the BLUE parts of the state!!! In the deep red parts Gillespie did better.... she did better in the Blue areas and better overall! How can you honestly sit there and think a MAGA disruptir at the top of the ticket would have been DOA?
She did BETTER, significantly BETTER in the densely populated areas... had that type of candidate been at the top of the ticket, no doubt they likely could have gotten another 2.5% or so more than she did and been able to win.
That’s all that was needed.. to say it isn’t there when more than 600,000 MAGA voters stayed home is silly.
Yes it won’t be easy for an R to win state wide in VA, but to claim it can’t happen, just disagree. VA isn’t California yet
Look, the current operating principle of the Republican Party is that Trump cannot fail; he can only be failed.
I was told yesterday that if Trump wanted to win Virginia in the election, he would have. So...there you go.
People are missing the story here. Republicans don’t really win state-wide elections in Virginia any longer. That’s the new reality.
The problem is that the Repubs went from a near super-majority in the House of Delegates to possible minority status. That had nothing to do with Trump.
A transgender beating someone who sponsored a bathroom bill has nothing to do with Trump or Gillispie or MAGA.
