My suggestion would be for Northern VA, DC and Central MD (Montgomery and PG Counties) to merge into a new state; the rest of VA could join with western, northern MD and the MD Eastern Shore. I think residents of both of the new states would be pleased.

That’s what should happen because that’s all it is now. Just an appendage of DC.
