I, too programmed COBOL in 1967. It did have some advantages. Was on one of the
4 language designs for DoD-I that became Ada. Unfortunately, we came in 2nd and a French company won the Legion of Honor for designing the American defense language.

I've moved beyond Java and am now working in the Cloud... :-)
