He WON! Tell us more.
Yes, he did, and Lettie heads are exploding across Alberta and Canada today. A glorious morning.
I dont know Kenney personally but Ive known of him for decades. When I worked in radio news in the late 1980s and early 90s he headed the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a fiscally conservative watchdog/lobby group. After the Reform party stormed Ottawa after the 1993 election, at which time I was working for the Reform Party as a communications guy, he was elected to replace a Reform MP named Jan Brown, who turned out to be a big time RINO who walked away (fortunately, but not before doing McCain-like damage).
He served the Harper Conservative (mostly in name, alas) government in various positions, the most high profile of which was as immigration minister, where he freaked out all the right people. Hes been a big time target of the media and the left since day one - my kind of guy.
He left federal politics and came back to Alberta to run for the leadership of the old and stale Progressive Conservative party here, which had become increasingly progressive and less conservative over its 40+ years in power and needed to be kicked out. But in kicking them out, Albertans elected the socialist NDP (new democratic party) who are not only commies but highly incompetent (quelle surprise!) - mostly, I believe, because the real Conservative party (Called Wildrose), which was the official opposition, had been nearly destroyed by its leader listening to the PC leaders Wormtongue-like scheme and crossing the floor with most (but not all) of her caucus.
That leader, Danielle Smith, and her fellow crossers all got tossed out In The subsequent election, btw, proving that there is justice sometimes.
Anyway, Kenney got elected leader of thePCs and proceeded to drive a much-needed stake into its heart by helping join with Wildrose to create a United right party, the United Conservative Party. Then yesterday he became the partys first leader and a voice of freedom is rising from Albertans today the likes of which hasnt been heard here since Rome fell.
Okay, maybe I exaggerate a tad. Were surely in for an interesting and entertaining time here, though, and I now have hope. Kenney doesnt back down and thats exactly whats needed.
Cheers,
Jim
