Martin Feldstein was on CNBC today and made the same point regarding high tax states (at time 2:30-3:49): https://www.cnbc.com/video/2017/11/17/santelli-exchange-feldstein-on-tax-reform.html

In Texas, we are a relatively low tax state and we have Roads, Schools, State Police and Prisons.

Not sure about Great Grandma’s retirement home, though. I’m kind of against government providing homes for people. Medicare may pay for a nursing home if Great Grandma paid into the system during her working years. But this is beyond my knowledge.

And an oil and gas industry that provides a lot in the way of production taxes. Not all states are that fortunate.

Medicare does not cover nursing home care. Medicaid does.
