Unless I’m misreading the news stories on this, this passed because the budget left the local tax deductions in place. As predicted, there were enough Republicans in CA, IL, NY and NJ to torpedo that idea.
Whether that idea is permanently dead or not, I don’t know.
According to the WSJ:
“Eleven of the 20 Republican no votes came from representatives of the high-tax states of New York and New Jersey, who defected because of the partys plan to limit or repeal the deduction for state and local taxes.”
Currently, the state/local deductions is OUT. But this budget doesn’t decide anything. Tax reform voting is still to come.
