White House chief of staff John Kelly reportedly said, if it were up to him, the number of refugees that should enter the U.S. each year should be between zero and one.
Kelly's comment was made during a discussion regarding lowering annual caps on the amount of refugees entering the U.S., the New York Times reported Wednesday.
Last month, it was revealed the administration intended to lower the annual cap on admissions of refugees to 45,000. This is the lowest number seen since 1980, when the caps were first established through the U.S. Refugee Act. Under the Obama administration, the cap had been set at 110,000.
Trump has in the past called for the Department of Homeland Security to execute "extreme vetting" of refugees.
Prior to accepting his position in the White House, Kelly was DHS secretary.
I like this man.
He’s not daring to imply that most refugees are only coming for the cash...is he? :)
I don’t know about this. I do not think that dismembering a refugee so that only a piece of him/her can enter the US (to keep the number of refugees between zero and one) is going to enjoy much public support from anyone on the political spectrum.
We like Kelly, we hate Kelly, now we like Kelly. Someone has to make up our minds.
Then, that means 0 is the most acceptable number which should be alowed to enter, which I still think is still too high.

I can see refugees entering the US - but I would require them to be from cultures compatible with and friendly to Western Civ and the United States.
A refugee is a unique phenomena. As a refugee, they should be allowed entrance only on a temporary basis and after severely critical evaluation. Once the situation that made them a refugee resolves, they should return to their original point of embarkation.

Are you suggesting negative numbers? That could only be accomplished by sending them home. I like that idea. How about a rate of 5 times the previous resettlement rate - send them all home permanently, last-in first-out, unless they achieve citizenship before receiving that free trip home.

My preference would be somewhere between zero and none at all.
It could be that he’s “growing” in the job.
I sort of like the idea of refugee camps. Keep them isolated and safe and under control until if and when they can prove they are able to be trusted with freedom of motion.
Oh, and if I didn't mention it, we should have those refugee camps offshore.

My sentiments exactly. We have 324 million people here and 94 million out of work. We don’t need even one more refugee/immigrant.
