Current and past leaders of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) say they had no knowledge that the national party was helping to fund a dossier compiled by a British spy that contained scandalous accusations about President Trump.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Hillary Clintons campaign and the DNC paid millions to the law firm Perkins Coie, where Democratic lawyer Marc Elias worked with the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to construct the memo, which was compiled by British spy Christopher Steele.
The memo is at the center of several investigations into Russian meddling and it may have been used by the FBI as part of its investigation into allegations that Trump campaign officials had improper contacts with Russian officials. Former FBI director James Comey has said none of the allegations in the memo have been verified.
The bombshell Washington Post report has emboldened President Trump, who on Wednesday lashed out at the fake dossier and described it as the cornerstone of the whole Russia hoax.
DNC communications director Xochitl Hinojosa said chairman Tom Perez, who only became the Democratic leader in April, had nothing to do with the arrangement. The law firm Perkins Coie handles a range of issues for the DNC.

Don no nuffin. Din see it dindu it cant prove nuffin.
Well, I can’t say as I blame this bunch for saying whatever they feel like saying. It’s worked in the past. Hillary can tell the biggest most blatant lies known to man, and what happens? NOTHING. She’s been breaking the law for years and she laughs all the way to the bank. Nobody has the nerve to call her on her lies when she’s sitting in an interview - they all bow down to her. She has some amazing kind of power over people.
That was my first reaction.
What is the timeline here?
Thats completely believable.
After all, they were pretty ignorant about what the Awans were up to, and how much they were overcharging while they violated every security precaution in the book.
XXXXXX!XXXXXXXX!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Sarcasm, right? Because I think DWS and the libs in the swamp, if not ALL swamp dwellers, knew our secrets were being sold by the Awans. If a simple old retired nurse such as I, could figure that out as soon as I heard about the IT arrangement, I’m sure our illustrious, brilliant representatives could figure it out. They took us to be fools and rubes, and if it weren’t for Trumpism, wikileaks, and our intrepid right leaning press, we would continue to be in the dark. Thank You, LORD, for using them to expose evil.
Sometimes when I’m drying my clothing I hear a clatter in the dryer and sure enough, it’s a quarter I didn’t find in the pockets before I washed the stuff. So I can understand how the DNC could lose track of a petty six million buckaroos. Sure I can.
Generally, most of these people work in environments where $10,000 to $100,000 could be spent weekly and they don’t even see it going out. Same for money coming in from donors.
This was listed as legal fees so they might have gazed at the number of $5.6 million and just felt that it occurs regularly with lawyer cost.
The problem I see is that a small-time Democrat who comes up every four years to donate $100 to $1000 to get their guy or gal into the Presidency...does care about his donation and the way it might have been used in this case....fake fiction. You can figure that it was roughly $160,000 per page for what Fusion GPS wrote up. I would have written the same fictional stuff up for them, for a lot less (probably $200 a page would have been enough for me).
Hillary's State Department lost $6 billion... so these little things can happen from time to time.
which is worse - that they didn’t realize, or that they had no idea $6M was gone from the Party coffers?
They did not know about the dead reporter.
They did not know that CNN gave Hillary the question to the debates.
They did not know About the emails.
They did not know Anthony Weiner was a pervert.
They did not know Bill Clinton was disbarred.
They did not know about Hillary and Huma Huma.
They did not know Bill Clinton was a rapist.
They did not know nuthin.

Chief of staff: Hey Deb, I was wondering if I could use $3.5 million for a research project?
DWS: What sort of research project?
COS: Oh nothing really big, just that HRC’s lawyer knows this guy who knows this ex-spy dude, who has friends that are former KGB.
DWS: What’s in it for us?
COS: Trump’s ass in a sling.
DWS: Anyway this can come back on us?
COS: (laughing) no way, HRC and BHO have Comey and the FBI in their back pocket and after she wins no one will ever know a thing.
DWS: Silly me, what was I thinking. Go ahead and make the deal.
Maybe it was the same person that used Samantha Powers and Suan Rices’ identities to unmask Trump confidants.
Pakis, uranium, dossier, pay-to-play ... the Dem scandals are sprouting like late spring dandelions.
seeing this creature get hers (hopefully) will be delightful.
Yeah....sure Greaseball!
She and Warren must be vying for the biggest liar award....Hillary wins despite their efforts...;-)
I hear the sound of Debbies teat caught in the wringer.
“Current and past leaders of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) say they had no knowledge that the national party was helping to fund a dossier compiled by a British spy that contained scandalous accusations about President Trump.”
How does it feel to be the latest ‘goat’ in another Clinton-scandal, Debbie? Didn’t think it would happen to you?
About 3/4 sarcasm.
For the other quarter, I'm saying that Debbie and the DNC are so dirty, and do reprehensible stuff so routinely, that they can't keep track.
If I (or you, I assume) committed some unusual act of corruption or self-dealing, it would be fairly rare, and the details would be uppermost in my (our) minds. But these guys do so much perverse crap for the party, or for themselves, that it seems plausible to me that they lose track of the details. My comment is along the lines of Shakespeare's "what a tangled web we weave/when first we practice to deceive."
Agree.
