Somehow, it was hotter then: a black dog suffered on a summer’s day; bony mules hitched to Hoover carts flicked flies in the sweltering shade of the live oaks on the square. Men’s stiff collars wilted by nine in the morning. Ladies bathed before noon, after their three o’clock naps, and by nightfall were like soft teacakes with frostings of sweat and sweet talcum.
-Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
Here’s what I learned in the 6th grade:
The solar system is held together by gravitational pull. The earth revolves around the sun, while spinning on its axis. Climate is determined by where the sun’s thermo radiation contacts the earth along its geographic meridium.
The only way for a climate to change is if the earth were to shift on its axis.
Good point. I was born in '41, but not only can I read history, I also had a farmer father who was born in 1900 and liked to talk about how tough the "old days" were.
