An appeals court is blocking, for now, an abortion sought by a pregnant 17-year-old immigrant being held in a Texas facility, ruling that the government should have time to try to release her so she can obtain the abortion outside of federal custody.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued its ruling Friday hours after arguments from lawyers for the Trump administration and the teenager. The court ruled 2-1 that the government should have until Oct. 31 to release the girl into the custody of a sponsor, such as an adult relative in the United States. If that happens, she could obtain an abortion if she chooses. If she isnt released, the case can go back to court.
The judge who dissented wrote that the courts ruling means the teen will be forced to continue an unwanted pregnancy for multiple more weeks.
The teen, whose name and country of origin have been withheld because shes a minor, is 15 weeks pregnant. She entered the U.S. in September and learned she was pregnant while in custody in Texas.
She obtained a court order Sept. 25 permitting her to have an abortion. But federal officials have refused to transport her or temporarily release her so that others may take her to have an abortion. A lower federal court ruled that she should be able to obtain an abortion Friday or Saturday, but the government appealed.

Block it for at least another 8 months. That should do the trick.
Or they could put her on a plane home. There is always that.
This seems like good news on the surface, but unfortunately, may only represent a delay until this baby’s life is brutally snuffed out.
The teen is far enough along that she should start feeling movement soon, if she hasn’t already. Perhaps feeling her baby will soften her heart. Although I’ve known people for whom feeling the baby move was just a spur to get off their lazy butts and have that “problem taken care of.”
Fast track her release back to her own country.
She’s got to go back. Even if the USA was Mexico’s ER, this isn’t an emergency. Ship her back as soon as she goes into labor. No child murder, no anchor baby.
Or maybe that is how to prevent the creation of “anchor babies” - abort the fetus within the undocumented and other foreign national females who arrive in this country pregnant or become pregnant while on US soil.
Draconian, to be sure. But it would put an end to “citizenship tourism” in pretty short order.
But if they allow her to have the abortion, at our expense, does that mean all the women south of the border who want an abortion will head up here to get a free one?
That is exactly what it means. That’s why the leftists are so anxious for her to kill the baby at public expense.
Illegal alien, not immigrant.
Or Mengeleian. We may as well kill the old people and defectives that make it here as well?
Wall them out, send them back: we have enough problems with native scourges like feral Negroes, single mothers and Democrats.
Illegal aliens are on the plate now. Get rid of them. This country belongs to us, not a coterie of special interests.
Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
As long as the court blocks the abortion, the child lives. Think of it in that way.
