Former White House adviser Steve Bannon on Friday depicted former President George W. Bush as bumbling and inept, faulting him for presiding over a destructive presidency during his time in the White House.
Bannons scathing remarks amounted to a retort to a Bush speech in New York earlier this week, in which the 43rd president denounced bigotry in Trump-era American politics and warned that the rise of nativism, isolationism and conspiracy theories have clouded the nations true identity.
But Bannon, speaking to a capacity crowd at a California Republican Party convention, said Bush had embarrassed himself and didnt know what he was talking about.
Bannon said Bush has no idea whether he is coming or going, just like it was when he was president.
There has not been a more destructive presidency than George Bushs, Bannon added, as boos could be heard in the crowd at the mention of Bushs name.

We need more Bannon’s to step forward and be heard! I know they are out there.
Can’t wait for 2018 with Bannon campaigning for Pro Trump candidates...Drain the Swamp!!!
I voted for Bush twice - what was the alternative? Gore and Kerry! W had a good first term but greatly disappointed in his second. Even so, I wouldn’t take back my vote even though I found out that he is a total idiot.
I remember the “good old days” when posting something that brought up ill will toward Bush got you banned from this sight. We’ve come a long way baby. It’s just too bad so many good people got burned along the way.
More than anyone else, this is the man who destroyed Christianity in the middle East.
Late to the party, Bannon.
I was faulting that idiot from moment he spewed out the “religion of peace” crap through his stupid replacement of Coastguard personnel with mall cops and all the craziness that followed.
H.W. Bush was open in his globalism, and I voted a write in rather than G.W. because I was pretty clear that G.W. would be his father’s puppet.
“McCain/Obama/Bush gave essentially the same speech the same week. ... I wonder who told the Three Amigos to go give these speeches? Who gave them the talking points as well as they were coordinated?”
Excellent point and excellent questions.
Sorry to say this, but Al Gore would have done so also...
I WAS a Bush supporter...I thought he was playing a game of acting stupid, and maybe I was right..but, the joke’s on me. He stupidly is one of the ONE WORLDER CLUB...and that now makes him evil, also.
Don’t be sorry for pure speculation. Just remember, speculation is not reality.
Oh, I do despise bush for attacking our president. I also despise him for not attacking the islamic vulture that crapped on the country for 8 years.
When Bush left office, we were in the worst economic freefall since the depression. That was his legacy. A Herbert Hoover for our times
No, Trump is right about Bushs invasion of Iraq. Total stupidity, costing trillions, leading to the genocide of Iraq’s Christians, and giving control to Iranian- allied shias. Saddam had kept the jihadis under his boot. Bush took him out and they ran wild, killing Christians and inviting Iranians to come help them run the country. And the first sentence in the new Iraq constitution - written when Bush, not Obama, was president - said that sharia law was supreme. That’s your Bush legacy in the middle east
The trillions of dollars spent on Dubya’s unnecessary war in Iraq is a big chunk of the national debt.
We have been in many unnecessary wars including Nam, WWII, WWI, war between the states, and so forth. It’s really quite a long list isn’t it? Some would say the war of secession from the British empire was also unnecessary.
All war is unnecessary if you're willing to surrender to your enemy.
W always ‘listened ‘ to his dad . He still is....
Not sure what your point is. Iraq war was a disaster, and a stupid move on Bush’s part. Trump is the first GOP leader to break the party’s code of omertà and say that truth out loud. Before he said it, no GOP leader - few Freepers - would publicly admit what th rest of America saw as obvious
The Iraq war was worse than unnecessary. We got rid of the dictator who was holding Iraq together and keeping the jihadis boxed into their caves
Trump deserves honor for having the courage and honesty to say this in the debates, straight in the faces of the GOP leaders who refused to speak the truth. The rest of America knew the Iraq war was a disaster and Bush was a dunce to start it. But until Trump came along, Republicans weren’t allowed to openly admit this - even though they knew it was true
Oh, I get it! WilliamIII... You're Bill Clinton!
I knew I'd heard that kind of thinking before: Get on TV and shake your finger at terrorist dictators, sternly condemn their mean behavior, then go back to twiddling your interns.
Maybe throw a cruise missile at them once in a while. Blow up some tents and camels.
Whatever else his failings, W at least finally took the fight to them, in THEIR back yard.
