A global tipping point for electric cars could come as early as 2022, as battery costs decrease and concerns about range and infrastructure ease. Thats from analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who in a little over a years time have turned even more optimistic about the future dominance of electric cars over internal-combustion vehicles. In a Tuesday note, the analysts forecast that one in three cars will be purely electric by 2030; their July 2016 prediction was one in 10 by the same year. There are several factors converging that have led us to revise our thinking a combination of changing customer preferences, increasingly viable product, regulation, and infrastructure, they said in the note.

“Hairdryers are not on for 8 hours continuously. 1500 watts all night for full 8 hours is and extra 360 kilowatt hours a month just by itself, now multiply that by 2 cars times the neighborhood size, and that little neighborhood transformer never cools down overnight.”
Transformers are designed for peak load. AC, lights, TVs, stove, hot water heater all going.
Much more than 1500 watts! You go to sleep and all that demand essentially goes away. Much more than 1500 watts.
And it is not all night. Two hours of charging satisfies most commuting needs.
Do the math.
“Now all houses current loads plus that all night from all houses with two cars because everyone has their own car, those neighborhood transformers never get to cool down overnight.”
Not all houses current loads. Charging is done while people are sleeping ... Reduced AC, no lights, no stove, no hot water heater, no TVs.
In fact demand is so low, our power company gives it away during that time.
Nope. Under $25K, at $24K plus. I shopped around, and got it at a dealer 70 miles away at discount, brand new with about 13 miles on it. I have bought all my cars at discount, fully loaded with accessories. You negotiate to get the best deal. I bought a brand new ZX for $13K under sticker, that's a deal I'll probably be hard pressed to repeat. The old Chevys I previously mentioned, some I bought at auctions. That was back in the 60s and 70s, I bought a lot of cars in my youth, most for under $100. But new cars back then were in the 2K to 4K range. My soon-to-be wife bought a brand-new Datsun fully-loaded for $2400 in 1973. Prices have gone up a tad since then.
Look every 20 amp circuit is not a charging station.. your advocacy is borderlining on zealotry. Pull into my driveway and attempt to use my circuit as your charging station and see how quickly you are arrested for trespassing and theft. Stop being silly. That line is the same nonsense as every man is a potential rapist.
Electric is nowhere near a place where it is going to replace combustion, and without either gasoline prices shooting to $10 or $20 a gallon, or regulatory force ending the legal sale of combustion engines.
It may get there some day but it’s not anywhere close today
Porsche!

That is one stupid post!
Besides low speed, what other special conditions applied?
>> How many times a year would it be it acceptable to
>> you to fear youre going to suffer frostbite?
Zero. That’s why I have a Volt.
Ok. There are a handful out there but all over $200k.
And although street legal are not really street cars.
Even for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS there is a ‘race’ version.

"I say there! Gas is nowhere near a place wher it is going to replace the horse-drawn buggy!
Tesla Forum—”Charging with 110v outlet”. Discussion of experience with wall outlet charging. Verdict is ‘not practical’ beyond short commute. Adds 2 to 3 miles range per hour of charging. Best use for wall outlet is to keep the battery warm and topped-up while parked during a cold overnight stop.

Not to mention bridge-lift systems, submarine and ship drives, cranes, articulated stadium roofs, etc., etc.
To say electric motors haven’t got enough torque for the job is just plain incorrect.
Have to ask... Love my Nissans. Whatcha driving?
” Verdict is not practical beyond short commute. “
I believe I have been referring to short commutes.

Pull into a gas station and leave the station without paying for the gas and see how quickly you are arrested for trespassing and theft. Stop being silly. Model S specifications from Tesla quotes 4,647.3 lbs. Your quote appears to be for Model 3.

Tell me: which of the Democrat-controlled hive cities do you live in? And how long is your hive-city commute?
And there it is: the electric car crows peels off its skin and exposes the totalitarian within.
Hear this: I will NOT COMPLY.
Yeah, reading back over this thread after I came home, borders on a disturbed obsession. Definitely was triggered by skeptics.
What you "envision" is not possible by the laws of physics. Look up "insolation tables" for the US. Check wintertime. The best solar panels have 23% or so efficiency. Your little toy electric car is small and has very little room for photo-voltaic panels.
Get back to me after you realize the error of your statement.
