Congress was warned Thursday that North Korea is capable of attacking the U.S. today with a nuclear EMP bomb that could indefinitely shut down the electric power grid and kill 90 percent of "all Americans" within a year.
At a House hearing, experts said that North Korea could easily employ the "doomsday scenario" to turn parts of the U.S. to ashes.
In calling on the Pentagon and President Trump to move quickly to protect the grid, the experts testified that an explosion of a high-altitude nuclear bomb delivered by a missile or satellite "could be to shut down the U.S. electric power grid for an indefinite period, leading to the death within a year of up to 90 percent of all Americans."

“But many millions could die in my opinion.”
Based on what evidence?? Hurricanes knock out power across entire States, but millions do not die.
“EMP mitigation funding scare “
Yep, just like the Ozone Hole and Globull Warming. It all starts in the universities looking for grant money.
We need to abolish universities and start over.
Transformers are one thing, generators are another - the sort used by dams and power plants - made in Sweden or Norway - backlog is over 2 years. None made in the US.
How many bullets do you have? How fast can you fire them before running out? What do you do when they shoot back?
When hundreds attack, when thousands attack, when training no longer counts, save a round for yourself.
Chinese union workers today. In the 1900s we built our own, then we elected Bill Clinton and sent the manufactures and their plants overseas ...
“Thats BS. Americans are more resourceful than that”
... said as they swarmed out of their warrens in the inner cities ...
Just imagine that your pc is the same one in food distribution points - those gigantic warehouses - and they both get fried at the same time as the motors on the forklifts - on the third day, what’ja gonna eat?
And if you have some food, will it last the years it will take to restore the grid? If it does, how many others will those stores feed besides you and yours?
Urban: Those ferals in the inner cites, now numbering in the millions, will be reduced to only several hundred thousands - all members of various gangs - so few, from so many. Off they go to see what food can be found in the Suburbs ...
Suburban: hunting buddies? Great! Until the local game is exhausted and they have to compete with the next town over ...
Rural: Fine, until the Suburbanites are forced to expand their hunting ranges as game grows ever more scarce under intense, unregulated hunting pressures ... then winter, a particularly harsh winter descends nationwide ...
Sounds good ... on paper.
Do understand what an EMP pulse does? It fries electronic circuitry - maybe. A vehicle with electronic ignition MAY need a new ECU(engine control unit) or it may not after an attack. Vehicles and agricultural equipment stored in metal buildings will be protected. Antique vehicles will still work. Electronic car parts stored in a metallic buildings will be protected. If your house has a metal roof you stuff will be protected. SEL airplanes will still work as well as boats with outboards that do not have electronic ignition. The subways will still work.
My AR will function perfectly after an EMP. Funny how that works.....
Hello!
One Second After.
They’ve known about this threat for DECADES and the lame dimocratic presidents did NOTHING.
And now it’s up to Trump to fix the whole thing?
Automobiles were subjected to EMP environments under both engine turned off and engine turned on conditions. No effects were subsequently observed in those automobiles that were not turned on during EMP exposure. The most serious effect observed on running automobiles was that the motors in three cars stopped at field strengths of approximately 30 kV/m or above. In an actual EMP exposure, these vehicles would glide to a stop and require the driver to restart them. Electronics in the dashboard of one automobile were damaged and required repair. Other effects were relatively minor. Twenty-five automobiles exhibited malfunctions that could be considered only a nuisance (e.g., blinking dashboard lights) and did not require driver intervention to correct. Eight of the 37 cars tested did not exhibit any anomalous response.
I was thinking more of hunting buddies as working together to deal with all problems, including feral threats. Also, I don't think game will get exhausted. They may switch from venison to squirrels and bunnies, but those rodents reproduce like rabbits. Hunters won't run out.
No effects were subsequently observed in those automobiles that were not turned on during EMP exposure.
I wrote that “given” the grid and communications down for a year, 90% casualties are reasonable.
Highly unlikely to happen, though.
I have read the EMP commission report your link references.
We simply do not know just what the effects of a high level EMP pulse attack would be, because it is very difficult to test. That works for us, because an attacker would be stupid or desperate to attack the U.S. with an EMP device, where they do not know what will happen. The uncertainty works in our favor.

The biggest problem with EMP pulse attacks are the transformers at the end of long distance transmission lines. They are the most likely to be destroyed by an EMP pulse.
Electronic appliances are iffy. Much depends on whether they are hooked to the grid or not. The primary effect of an EMP pulse is the voltages and energies it induces in long conductors, which is why the grid and other long conducting systems are at risk.
Subways would only work if there is power for them. The power grid is the most vulnerable component for an EMP attack.
I posted a link to the report on Freerepublic in 2008, as I recall. Bigbob did so on September 3 of this year. There is a link to the pdf file there.
It is worth reading.

An EMP pulse is not going to kill 280+ million people. That is f***ing ridiculous to even think that.
I have read up on this subject for 20 years now.
The threat is real, and the 90% fatality rate (after a year is very plausible. First to go are any folks on insulin, followed by all other folks dependent on drugs, like blood thinners.
One bomb is enough to do massive damage to our infrastructure.
Regarding who is most at risk, I direct you to Travis McGee’s Civil War 2 Cube. It explains it.
Looking around at our fellow Americans, I see weak, entitled, non-resilient people for whom a messed up order at Starbucks is a life-changing event.
I plan on eating those people.
I already have the recipes.
So, I’m in a fixed position awaiting an attack from hundreds or even thousands of zombies?
And, I’m all by myself?
Nay, I’m with a band of very close friends and family atop Donner Pass, ensuring none can crest it from the West. Reno will already have been cleared of anything resembling a zombie.
I have more options than most. I’m not in the East Bay or LA or any other major metropolis.
