Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday voiced concerns about President Trump's comments on NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, saying Trump should not have the power to dictate who can kneel during the anthem.
"There’s a part of this story that’s starting to make me nervous, and it’s this: I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. That’s not where this should be coming from," Limbaugh said on his show. Limbaugh said he believed Trump's motives were "pure," but he argued that the president's actions were unhelpful in the broader debate on players kneeling.
"Trump is continually tweeting — I know what he’s doing, and I understand why he’s doing it, and his motives are pure; don’t misunderstand. But I don’t think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued.
"We don’t want the president being able to demand anybody that he’s unhappy with behave in a way he requires," Limbaugh added.

By making this a political issue, Trump cleverly maneuvered the NFL into clarifying their position on whether players should be allowed to express political opinions on the field. The NFL is quite clear, and rightly so, that players should not wear any visible political material, such as campaign stickers or MAGA hats, but they are not clear about physical actions that have political meaning. Kneeling during the anthem is the most obvious example. The “black power” raised fist is another.
The NFL actually has no choice but to crack down on the kneeling, as they watch their ratings collapse.
Too bad Rush isn’t able to see this, but he’s GOPe to the core.
I am not going to take the first ever story in The Hill quoting Rush Limbaugh favorably at face value.
Trump had to defend the flag.
Every patriotic American could have stood up and walked out of the stadium on seeing any player disrespecting the flag and sent the message
People want ‘the itger guy’ to do the dirty work. Now people want the government to do it.
It IS too bad the president had to do this. Rush could have been more vocal about it over the past year
Maybe because I’m a thought parent - it was obvious to me as soon as Kaepernick didn’t get suspended day one by the league, Then the stadium audience didn’t get up and leave - it was going to get worse.

Trump did not dictate anything to anybody—he set a bar of behavior that every real American subscribes to, and as usual, became the voice of everyman.
If Roger Goodell and the pussified owners were paying attention—this is exactly what the American NFL fans have been saying for three weeks.
These multimillionaire morons have been deliberately trying to ignore their own consumers to advance a cop killing agenda—and that is extremely unsettling.
They were OK with losing billions for the cause.

I for one am happy that we have a President who will defend our National Anthem and Flag. It’s the first time in a long time we’ve had such a President.

I think the marketplace will decide this issue. It may take till the upcoming season when ticket sales start coming in to see the full impact. If stadium sales are down significantly and if tv viewers are as well then everyone vested in the game will follow the market. Personally, I’ve become somewhat jaded with the NFL. My rule of thumb now is first, turn the channel to a game only if I’m interested. Second, if everyone stands respectfully for the anthem and opening ceremony, both teams, then I continue to watch. But, if even one plays acts disrespectfully I change channels. That’s it...
I listened to the piece in question (happened to be in the car driving). They are making much more out of this than there is, and they are leaving out a LOT of dialogue. Why are so many here gobbling it up?
Correct.....Rush's comment needs to be put in its proper context. Here's the complete commentary:

This should come from the league, as it looks like Goodell wants it to. The owners should be demanding this, not the president. The commissioner should be demanding this, not the president.
We don’t want the president being able to demand anybody that he’s unhappy with behave in a way he requires. That’s scary to me, even if the president’s somebody I happen to like. This is a workplace issue. It’s the owners and the league that let this get out of hand because they didn’t know how to deal with it or were afraid to.
And if this is gonna be made to work, the players are gonna have to be told who the boss is and they’re gonna have to be given specific workplace rules and regulations that they know have nothing to do with the Constitution, the First Amendment, freedom of speech. If you want to work for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you are gonna stand for the anthem. If you want to work for Dallas Cowboys, you’re gonna stand for the anthem.
But I’m really nervous if all that happens because the president makes it happen. He can make it happen by forcing the owners. But this is a slippery slope to me, and it hit me a while ago and crystallized last night. Trump is in the right, don’t misunderstand. But no president should have dictatorial power over individual behavior.
A president should not be able to tell the owners of a business how their employees are gonna act and what they’re gonna swear allegiance to and all that. That’s up to the owners to do, and it’s up to the owners to come up with a system of punishment if their employees violate company policy, like it is in any other business.
That is so true and he plays if of like he always knew trump would win. Whatever Rush. Accuracy rate down. All that is needed is to read some postings from those days. The whole comment is screwy
Take away the kneeling and they’ll find another way to express their contempt of the fans — spitting in disgust after the anthem is played, laughing and horsing around with another, virtual mooning of the fans during stretching exercises, etc., etc.
Rush is wrong, Trump has no power to do any of what he suggested. Trump took a position and the people have answered his call.
That’s what happens when leaders lead.

And if Rush is right, here, and of course he has a point- I heard the broadcast, not going by the inflammatory headline- everyone should defend the flag. The football establishment is done because they didn’t do so
People run around thinking it’s passee to love the country
Well, the foundation, the Constitution, has not been replaced.
Disrespect, condemnation of it, especially in a public forum, is unacceptable. It will, by its nature, become an out of control movement.
But it is up to the football fans, anyone present, to decide what’s more important, the game or the country.
I hope they’re taking a second look at their omission
