Las Vegas gunman shot security guard a full six minutes before opening fire
LA Times ^ | October 9, 2017 | Matt Pearce et al

Police have dramatically changed their account of how the Las Vegas massacre began on Oct. 1, revealing Monday that the gunman shot a hotel security guard six minutes before opening fire on a country music concert — raising new questions about why police weren’t able to pinpoint the gunman’s location sooner.

Officials had previously said that gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., shot Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos after Paddock had unleashed his deadly volley at the Route 91 Harvest festival, an assault that began at 10:05 p.m. and left 58 people dead, with hundreds more injured.

They had credited Campos, who was shot in the leg, with stopping the 10-minute assault on the concert crowd by turning the gunman’s attention to the hotel hallway, where Campos was checking an alert for an open door in another guest’s room.

But Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday that Paddock shot Campos before his mass shooting — at 9:59 p.m. — and they now don’t know why Paddock stopped his attack on the crowd.

drilling though? Have the police even mentioned a drill? Might explain the windows being able to be broken easier than just shooting it or with a hammer, but this is the first I have heard about a drill. Why haven’t the police mentioned this yet?

It takes a lot of lying bullsh*t to get people to read the LA Times. Most people find the truth boring and would rather read something sinister. The LA T gives it’s readers what they want.

Right, and now the whole BS story that the hotel desk was alerted of the broken windows due to sensors/alarm which is what prompted them to send security and later the police.

If the shooting hadn’t started, what was the security guard doing there?

Given this new revelation, the spotlight turns directly onto the Mandalay Bay Security team.

1. If the guard was shot at least 6 minutes before the shooting started out the windows, what was the MB Security team doing? This is not a Motel 6. This is a casino resort hotel. They probably had 20-30 security personnel on duty. Where were they?

2. If he was shot 6 minutes before the shooting started on the concert, Why the delay in getting security personnel to that floor? initial reaction of the guard would have been “Central, this is Campos, we have gunfire on the 32nd floor! Get more security up here NOW and lets get people out of these other rooms.”

This stinks to high heaven, now.

My first thought is that Campos was involved and is hiding in plain sight.

IF... you and your fellow officers had just fired 200 rounds through the door of a room where a man was standing there who had been firing at the crowd, and you enter the room to find him dead, wouldn’t your assumption be that he got hit by one of the 200 bullets ?

How can the cops be so stupid to go to the front of the casino where the guy was shooting from? Park on the side, walk along the sidewalk close to the building while someone is providing cover fire towards broken windows. Advancing directly into the face of a sniper is as believable as Hillary landing in Bosnia under sniper fire.

Any links to this. I have no idea what this even means.

Good Catch!

I definitely have my mind on North Korea. They are supposed to have a MISSILE TEST later tonight.

I think it would take a special combination of circumstances to trip and get the muzzle of a rifle in one's mouth and then fire. A combination about as rare as winning Powerball.

Could happen to a real idiot.

Well, Paddock claimed to consistently win big money at video poker. What are the odds of that being true?

It’s all about liability. They’re afraid armed security will shoot an innocent victim etc. Never mind his safety, it’s all about limiting big dollar lawsuit payouts or settlements. Insurance companies operate very much like Las Vegas.

The big question is why did he stop firing with 23 guns and much more ammo to expend.

Oh, I agree that is the big question. But the answer offered in the case, IMO, is less than compelling.

Obviously you have never been to Vegas.

An interesting interview with the guy in 31-134, just below one of the broken windows:

‘I Was Just Going to Bed When the Shooting Started’

An IT guy from Kansas, in town for a four-day conference.

He heard gunfire but thought it was fireworks at the concert. Then came the third volley, really loud and just above, with debris hitting his window. At that point he realized something was going on. What did he do? He opened the scanner app on his phone and learned that an officer had just been shot.

But he didn't call it in, even though, at that point, he possessed probably the most valuable information. His excuse:

Q: Did you call police or the hotel desk?

A: No, I didn’t. (Pauses) After I encountered the security in the hallway, I figured it didn’t matter. They were already there.

Not from Vegas, but he still didn't call.
