EXCLUSIVE: Meryl Streep Speaks Out Against Harvey Weinstein
She said the women who have spoken out against him are “heroes.”
Here’s Streep’s full statement:
“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.
One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.
The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”
Meryl Streep is a damn liar.
I knew. Who the hell am I? Just someone who lives in LA and heard from people with spider filament connections to The [precious] Industry??? And I knew he was a filthy pervy typical casting couch lech but MERYL STREEP HAD NO IDEA????
Riiiiight.
And she is SO SURE that if he had ever laid his thing on one girl, the PRESS WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER IT????? you could die choking of laughter at that. Her solidarity with women ends the second she lands another overpaid gig.
You really think Weinstein would ever do anything shady around or toward Streep? nah
That’s why these guys get away with crap for so long, they are selective on who they prey and it’s usually powerless females, younger and looking for a gig.
Around others who had power to bring him down or at least pull some rank like a Streep, he most likely was very professional. Making it even worse for the other females who were attacked, or harassed.
