Get a copy of Alan Ryskind’s book “Hollywood Traitors: Blacklisted Screenwriters: Agents of Stalin, Allies of Hitler”, Regnery History/Regnery Publishing, 2015.
Alan’s father was the famous Hollywood screenwriter Morrie Ryskind (Marx Brothers, etc) who led the anti-communist faction of the Screenwriters Guild against the Stalinist machine led by John Howard Lawson (NKVD) and others.
The Reds put into effect a “blacklist” of conservative, anti-communists writers and actors (which Ronald Reagan fought against in the SAG (Screen Actors’ Guild). It was Reagan, John Wayne, Ward Bond and a few others who took on the “Hollywood 10 and their Communist Party fellows, resulting in hearings by the House Committee on Un-American Activities the flushed the Reds into the open.
Morrie Ryskin and his brave fellow writers never really had their story told en toto until Alan (my former editor at Human Events Weekly), got his father’s papers and related materials to tell the conservatives side of the story.
