Homosexuals did run the violent enforcement wing of the Nazi party until Hitler had them executed, not for being gay, but because their policies were too extreme. I think the main policy was they wanted to run the military.

Not entirely accurate. There were two gay factions in pre-WWII Berlin: the effeminate gays as exemplified by Magnus Hirschfeld, and the violent macho gays, who were rampant in the NAZI Party leadership. The problem for the NAZIs was that Hirshfeld, as was not unusual among gays, knew too much about the studly boys. His institute was raided and his library burned in the famous ‘NAZI book burning’ incident. Hitler’s studly fags were trying to get rid of the evidence.
Rohm and crew were shed later, and for the same reasons: he knew too much.
