Tremor/reflexes from trauma to the brain? Looks like he (or whomever ) put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger.
Had a loved one do this but to the temple with a Derringer.
What caliber was the handgun?
Looks like a S&W J-frame, probably 38 special, maybe 357 mag.
