Th rate of fire precludes 7.62, probably. For example, AK47's and other, heavier calibers fire at about 600 rounds/min. The initial burst sounded significantly higher than that.

M16's, if I'm not mistaken, fire .223 at about 900 rounds/min. That's what it sounded like, as far as firing rate.

So, judging by the rate of fire, I'm guessing it was something more akin to M16. It did not sound like (50%) lower rate AK47 fire to me.

I'm no expert, but I can tell the difference between 600 and 900 rounds per minute, and this was closer to 900...

It sounded like a belt feed SAW-249.

The bit I heard didn’t sound like 7.62 to me either. He apparently had a bunch of weapons up there, but I was almost certain one clip I heard was full auto 5.56. First thing that crossed my mind was M249 SAW in terms of a similar rate of fire.

Actually, after hearing and seeing that video again, it does sound to me like it could be AK47 fire—which is a rate of about 600 rounds per minute.

For some reason, my first thought upon initially hearing the audio was that it was significantly higher than that, but now I'm 'not sure.

It's almost like the video (audio) was sped up the first time I heard it...
