This morning on Fox, Newt said the Left will push this until the anthem is dropped from ball games.

The Steelers are pushing in that direction.

My theory will continue to be "World League of American-style Football", or maybe something more creative like "Kaepernickball". Featuring comparatively unskilled but very macho athletes from the emerging NFL global market.

There are three reasons for this that I can think of offhand:

1) "Iron Mike" Webster

2) Junior Seau

3) Yes, Aaron Hernandez

Sure, why not? Teach some young dudes a simplified game on both sides of the ball, and let them do it just like Rollerball. It'll be big fun in the third world, and for that matter there will still be a certain market for it here in the US just as there is for MMA.

Otherwise the party's over and the money stops.

Sadly, this is probably correct.

BTW, I know someone might ax, "But OKSooner, please reconcile your evidently strong opinion about dain bramage and football with the screen name you post with here at FR..."

Sure. Happy to do it and happy to save any interested parties the trouble.

Always been a football fan.

Always been an Oklahoma fan. Dad wanted me to grow up to be like Coach Wilkinson. In 1963 the guy who broke the color line at OU came to my segregated grade school and made a friend for life out of me.

[Fast forward]

Back in 1998, when I signed up here at FR, no one knew anything about this stuff we call CTE. In hindsight though, we've always observed a certain debilitation in boxers, haven't we? Paul Simon wrote a song about it, remember? "The Boxer".

Anyway, I'm married to someone who has me more aware of this than I might otherwise have been if I'd married someone else.

So what are people to do, live life in a bubble? No, I don't mean that at all. Life its own self is risky. But life does change as we learn things. That's why dad stopped smoking back in the 60's after the surgeon general told us smoking kills.

In time, most Americans are going to have their sons doing something else other than football, and this deal with the NFL is all about the money.
