Oppening a new front in its broad legal battle against policies of President Trump, California filed a lawsuit Wednesday alleging that the administration has overstepped its powers in expediting construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
California Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra, who has filed eight lawsuits in recent months challenging various Trump actions, continued in his role leading efforts nationally to fight proposals he deems divisive and illegal.
Becerra announced the latest legal challenge in front of existing fencing at Border Field State Park near San Diego, saying the federal government failed to comply with environmental laws and relied on federal statutes that dont authorize border wall projects in San Diego and Imperial counties.
No one gets to ignore the laws. Not even the president of the United States, Becerra said. The border between the U.S. and Mexico spans some 2,000 miles. The list of laws violated by the presidents administration in order to build his campaign wall is almost as long.
The attorney general, who has called the wall a medieval solution to the immigration issue, said the project involves the improper waiver of 37 federal statutes, many aimed at protecting the environment.
Filed in federal court in San Diego and including the California Coastal Commission as a plaintiff, the lawsuit states its purpose is to protect the State of Californias residents, natural resources, economic interests, procedural rights, and sovereignty from violations of the United States Constitution and federal law.
It also alleges that federal officials have not shown any data suggesting new border barriers in the San Diego area will reduce illegal entry into the U.S., nor that there is a significant problem in that area.
The lawsuit adds that the wall would have a chilling effect on tourism to the United States from Mexico.

So many other states would love the DoD budget apportioned to CA.
How many Congressional seats would California lose if all its wetbacks were expelled? How much Federal $$$ would they lose if they were?
Some years ago Arizona was going to require all landlords confirm the legal residency of prospective renters:
Da Gummint at THAT time threatened an AIR BLOCKADE or something...!
Why won’t Trump play rough..?
I saw this guy California Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra on the news, saying “No one is above the law and laws must be enforced.” Idiot hypocrite! He’s defending “rights” of illegal aliens who break our laws by being here in the USA. So why won’t he enforce the laws that the illegal aliens are breaking! Grrrrr....
“No one gets to ignore the laws”
That’s rich coming from El State-Oh de Sanctuario
2017: "States should sue the Feds! Unfair that the Feds have power over immigration we demand to set our own rules!"
Coming next, California sues to have Jerry Browm declared the President.
The attorney general, who has called the wall a medieval solution to the immigration issue, said the project involves the improper waiver of 37 federal statutes, many aimed at protecting the environment.
I guess this guy has never been to South Korea and seen their "medieval" miles of concertina fencing, which successfully keeps North Koreans out. I wonder if he's ever noticed that housing prices in CA are outrageous, and ever suspected that over zealous prohibitions on construction in the name of the environment might have something to do with those prices?
Such a sad fate has befallen my home state, in which loonies like this guy are the norm now. Will it ever recover in my lifetime?
Two words to the California seditionists:
1867-68 Reconstruction Act.
Under that act, the federal government has the power to declare California in insurrection.
What follows is appointing a military governor, with necessary armed troops, to shut down the state governor and legislature.
Next is declaring the entire California congressional delegation as seditionists. In other words, all California legislators are kicked out of the US Congress.
There’s more good stuff under the Reconstruction Act, but this will due to start...
For those who don’t know, look up CA prop 187. You’ll learn about how the feds working in concert with their state co-conspirators burned the ballots and declared CA’s free election illegal after Californians were victorious!
Prop 187 would have stopped illegals from using public services. It won BIG, then government stepped in.
Never forget!
“...How many Congressional seats would California lose if all its wetbacks were expelled?...”
Many. And Governor Brown would be looking for a real job. And, the taxpayers would be $25 BILLION PER YEAR richer. That is what the Democrat majority of voters is costing the state and its REAL citizens.
A real pretty picture.
2017: "States should sue the Feds! Unfair that the Feds have power over immigration we demand to set our own rules!"
The argument all depends on whether the left has power at the state or the federal level. Since the goal of the left is to pump up its declining voter base with illegals (and to keep human and drug trafficking operations going unimpeded), it will say and do anything as long as it keeps the laws against illegal entry into the country from being enforced.
That’s the same reason CA Prop. 187 was struck down — the idea was that the Feds should be taking care of enforcing legal immigration.

And now that the Feds are trying to do this? The shoe is on the other foot!
Chale, ese. It's not a "campaign wall." It's a wall to keep the beans out of the mashed potatoes, metaphorically speaking.
Gosh, I hope that didn't come across as racist. Maybe I should think of another metaphor.
Oh, well.
Perhaps with a moat of savory brown gravy.
mmmmmmm gravy.
Might I suggest white gravy....
And be sure to avoid any disrespectful language towards Mexico, a country where millions of it’s people have absolutely zero respect for American laws and rules.
