Why can't you just feel good about someone's totally awesome accomplishments?

I tried to feel good about it but couldn't. It's likely because I don't see peddling a bicycle for 3 months to be an, "Awesome accomplishment". I'm sure there are many thousands of others who are more than capable of peddling a bicycle for 3 or 4 months too.

I suspect you’ve never experienced the pain and sense of accomplishment of riding a century. Once you have, you’ll really understand and admire what he did.
