Hope this doesn’t provoke Captain Obvious, but general officers do tend to be globalists who see the world not as an aggregate of nations, regions, spheres of influence or sources of danger to our national interests, but rather as theaters of operations headed by major commands led by G.O.’s such as themselves.
Theater commanders naturally try to expand their domains with additional units, manpower, and funding. Personal ambition plays a key role, in my opinion.
Not many isolationist generals in the system. Nor, come to think of it, are there major commanders who truly believe in going in to utterly destroy the enemy & his will to resist, then getting out (rotating the same units in & out of theater doesn’t count).
Being “the world’s policeman” does not go against the grain of top level strategic thought. It is my view that senior officers like McMaster are not an aberration from the military system.
On the other hand, “Mullah” McMaster’s unmistakeable anti-Israel stance needs much more exposure & discussion. It runs deeper than “let’s not alienate the Muslim world”, I believe.
They aren't. They are school trained that way.
