Left balks as Sessions returns DOJ to rule of law

President Trump may be disillusioned with Jeff Sessions, but the Attorney General is doing an outstanding job. Perhaps his most significant accomplishment is returning the DOJ to the rule of law by reinstituting guidelines that require prosecutors to charge the most serious offenses and ask for the lengthiest prison sentences.

One indication of the significance of this accomplishment is the howling from Team Leniency, including two former Obama-appointed prosecutors — Joyce Vance and Carter Stewart, formerly the United States attorneys for the Northern District of Alabama and the Southern District of Ohio, respectively. Their lament appears in this article for NRO.

Vance and Stewart contend that Sessions has reinstated a “one-size-fits-all policy” that “doesn’t work.”

Andy McCarthy also takes on the Obama-era prosecutors’ claim that the policy Sessions has reinstated “doesn’t work.” To the contrary, the policy, in effect with little variation from from the Carter presidency until the Obama years, is one of several factors that contributed to historic decreases in crime. When bad guys are prosecuted and incarcerated, they can’t prey on our communities. The sooner they are let out, the sooner they commit crimes.

Vance and Stewart also make the familiar arguments about the racial impact of tough sentencing. They ignore the racial impact of the increased crime that results from early release.

Andy doesn’t. He writes:

If you want to obsess over groups, maybe our sympathetic attention should shift to the prey rather than the predators — the racial minorities and poor people who by an outsize margin are victims of crime. That’s the disparate impact worth fretting over. And it is exacerbated when the laws are not enforced.

There’s plenty more straight talk in Andy’s piece. The whole thing is worth reading.

Oh no. Session’s real job was to protect Donald Trump, his family, and his associates from themselves.

Jeff just didn’t get the memo.

“... reinstituting guidelines that require prosecutors to charge the most serious offenses..”
I guess Treason, Espionage, and conspiracy to overthrow, are lesser offences.

President Trump promised Law and Order....DOJ Sessions is quietly going about the business of just that. The Left has no use for the U.S. Constitution which is about law and order for the nation...

I want to see Sessions drop the hammer on the so called "protestors" i.e., BLM, Antifa, George Soros who funds anti-American groups, Obama's OFA.....all infiltrated by ISIS, al Qaeda and other thugs for hire. Interrogate these masked evil doers....the country might be surprised at how many are illegal OTM's.

Yeah, sure...”most serious crimes get charged”, no compromises, tough sentences..... That is IF you aren’t nomenklatura like Hillary, Corzine, Lois Lerner, IRS commissioner, Susan Rice, Comey etc.
Then its happy times and pass the soda crackers and we’ll see you at the next Wapo party or Aspen conference.

Feckless

To the untrained eye it appears Sessions is taking a lot of naps.
Any day now he will lower the boom!

Yeah, all that “quiet competence” the never Trumpers see coming out of POS Sessions is, as you suggest, probably his just sleeping through life. All this HS about all the indictments Sessions is “working on,” is just that, HS.
For openers, he was a US Senator, which meant he hasn’t really had to do anything for the past twenty years or more except dress himself in the morning and perhaps take a crap.

Yup, we’ve witnessed selective rule of law for decades, but you missed the arresti of mayors of sanctuary cities harboring illegal aliens. Those bastards should have been arrested the day Trump was sworn into office.

I wonder if it bothers him to sign Mueller’s and the other 16 Democrat activist lawyers’ paychecks every two weeks?

Yup, I’d have US Marshals scattered all over the country arresting lawbreakers so fast we’d have to pass legislation to build more federal prisons.

Thanks to Andrew McCarthy, I have a new tag line.

Powerful words. Had to shorten it a little to make it fit. Here's the whole thing:

The only consensus that matters is one that drums up support sufficient to enact legislation into law.
