State Department Waging "Open War" on White House
The Gatestone Institute--International Policy Council ^ | September 17, 2017 | Soeren Kern

Posted on 09/17/2017 5:05:23 AM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

The U.S. State Department has backed away from a demand that Israel return $75 million in military aid which was allocated to it by the U.S. Congress.

The repayment demand, championed by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, was described as an underhanded attempt by the State Department to derail a campaign pledge by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to improve relations with the Jewish state.

The dispute is the just the latest example of what appears to be a growing power struggle between the State Department and the White House over the future direction of American foreign policy.

The controversy goes back to the Obama administration's September 2016 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Israel, which pledged $38 billion in military assistance to Jerusalem over the next decade. The MOU expressly prohibits Israel from requesting additional financial aid from Congress.

Congressional leaders, who said the MOU violates the constitutional right of lawmakers to allocate U.S. aid, awarded Israel an additional $75 million in assistance in the final appropriations bill for fiscal year 2017.

Tillerson had argued that Israel should return the $75 million in order to stay within the limits established by the Obama administration. The effort provoked a strong reaction from Congress, which apparently prompted Tillerson to back down. (Excerpt.....continued)

It’s quite apt him being in there. I’m surprised he’s there because very few have caught on.

IOW, he’s Mr. Quartet - which has but one basic goal.........

I think Trump can keep Tillerson on the reservation.

Why should he have to? Much better to have a guy who's actually with the program.

“I think Trump can keep Tillerson on the reservation.”
“Why should he have to? Much better to have a guy who’s actually with the program.”

I didn’t say Trump has to. Trump as POTUS can fire and replace a cabinet member as he chooses. It’s his call.

Of course it’s his call ... that’s not the point. If Tillerson has to be “kept on the reservation”, perhaps he should be replaced with someone who isn’t wandering off. IMHO.

??Tell it to the VA, where hundreds of pieces of deadwood have already been pruned and fired, yes fired. The same could be done at State with enabling legislation from Congress. It really does go back to the sabotage of the government by The Congressional republican cabal.

In 1948 the US State Department colluded with Laborite Britain to sink the nascent Israeli state. Only Truman's overriding of "the striped pants boys" enabled the country of Israel to be born. Sounds like at the bottom of the Swamp, nothing much has changed.

Yes. Good point. I know there have been good people working there over the years, but a lot of them forgot and forget that American sovereignty is paramount, not adhering to “Scottish Law” or some other crap.

"Of course it’s his call ... that’s not the point. If Tillerson has to be “kept on the reservation”, perhaps he should be replaced with someone who isn’t wandering off. IMHO." Well, why don't you apply for a White House Counsel job? Then you could be Trumps whisperer 😏....

Too bad the TaxPayers weren’t asked if we were ok with fed employees having a union; after all, We The People pay their salaries.

I did not expect everything fixed in 8 months; that is ridiculous.

And you know what? If he can’t get it all done in 4 years, that’s ok too; we understand what he is up against.

No matter what, We The People, the TaxPayers, the little people who keep the lights on in DC and pay for their umpteenth Blackberry upgrade, have spoken, and rather loudly, by voting in a non-UniParty, non-Swamp dweller who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and work with the filth in our world every single day....and take no salary for this lousy job AND give up his golden years to boot. He could be lounging around with his beautiful wife in Palm Beach just counting his money or designing golf courses. But instead, he has taken on a Herculean task of fixing our country.

And the only reason he’s doing it, is because he loves America.

So I will have his back and support him for trying to right the ship, but he is only one man and I think abandoning him is wrong.

If nothing else, we showed them OUR power and that at least 6 million people have been paying attention to the UniParty masquerading as 2 separate parties, with members who are only interested in global politics and fattening their own portfolios.

Trump is only the beginning...

Well we certainly have pearl-clutchers acting like they expected everything to be fixed in 8 months.

[and I think abandoning him is wrong]

Exactly. Otherwise, we’d have Hillary and the whole DNC machine continuing the disaster of Obama unchecked.
