Like it or not, the smartphones won the consumer gadget war. Almost everybody has a smartphone. Almost nobody has a all-band receiver. And no, portable all-band receivers will never make a comeback. Except maybe as an app on the smartphones.

I'm a fan of multi-band radio and have had shortwave radios most of my life. Back in the early 1990s, I would pay over $500 for a quality set. But I realize that they have had their day. Makes me feel old.

They might win the gadget war with consumers, but I'm not competing in some gadget war, and I can assure you, I'll be up when they're down.☺ That's what it's about for me.
