Western NC here, Charlotte area. We missed Hugo (living up north at the time). Serious question: I know they have us in a state of emergency, but would we need to evaluate this far inland?

We live in Jacksonville, Fl about 8 miles from the ocean. During hurricane Matthew last year our power never went out.
Forecasts for our area are predicting slower winds than when Matthew passed by us.
A lot will depend on how close the eye of Irma is to our shoreline.
Not happy.
I have contractors that are supposed to be flying in from Atalanta on Monday.
They told me “You will see us when you see us”.
