When my husband and I went through the Northridge [LA] Earthquake in 1994, we headed north into Ventura County and locked in a hotel room for a lower flat rate for 4 weeks. We knew we’d be out of our dwelling for at least 4 - 5 weeks. I remember going down to the front desk and saying, “we’ll need this room for more than 1 week. What can you do for us?....” Suggest you negotiate a rate for 30 days - that way you may save some money. All our relatives lived on the East Coast, and all our local friends/neighbors/acquaintances were in the same bad straits due to the EQ so - we had to use a still-standing hotel. It worked out well, we made the right decision....
