They might have made sense if N. Korea only has small nukes. That is no longer the case. N. Korea now has a bomb with sufficient yield to make experts think that she indeed has a hydrogen bomb. That changes everything. It is now big enough for EMP attack on a wide area of U.S.

It isn’t the size of the explosion that matters, it is the amount of gamma rays produced and the altitude of the explosion that matter. Actually, atomic bombs produce gamma rays more efficiently than hydrogen bombs. H-bombs are much more useful for maximizing blast damage.
