Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday called for the world to reject protectionism even as American and European pressure mounts on Beijing to lower market barriers, speaking at the start of a Chinese-led summit of five large emerging economies now overshadowed by North Koreas sixth nuclear test. [ ]
Xi was speaking to business representatives of the BRICS nations Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa a day before he opens a summit with the leaders of these major emerging markets in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen. This will be the ninth summit of the BRICS grouping, which came together about a decade ago to push for an alternative world order that wasnt dominated by Western nations.
China has long been accused of putting up unfair barriers to foreign companies. However, Xi has become a leader who speaks out in favor of globalization at a time when protectionist sentiments are on the rise in Western countries, including in the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

“You can’t have ops here in the PRC unless you open ALL your sourcecode and encryption.”
Oh sure, REAL open, yup.
If that pipsqueak NORK KIM um Creepy takes out our electrical grid - a month later China will collapse. The Chinese don't know crap about capitalism and why and how it works... and their game will be finished.
It's time for Xi Jinping to work with us and the world AGAINST the North Korean fool.
Maybe China can sell all of their stuff to Brazil, India and Russia instead of the USA.
They are looking at the EU as a trade partner too. And that’s in spite of the bickering between them.
They’re the ones propping up the Kim regime. And they help them along with Iran too.
It will be hard for China to replace our market with the EU. The EU won’t make up for what we buy from them. The EU also uses import duties and VAT to protect their businesses so China will have a tougher go of it there. I think it would be good for us if it happened, but China would come out of it much worse off.
Well, if they do their “free trade” agreement, who knows what they may institute to stave that off. Free trade is not synonymous with free market, after all.
That is true. I lived in Europe for a long time. I know from looking around the houses and driveways of people in the USA and people in Europe that we buy a lot more stuff than Europeans do. Even if the EU dropped everything for China, the Chinese couldn’t come close to replacing what they sell on our market with the EU.
The Chinese leaders are such shameless liars. They have extreme protectionist laws that force foreign companies to open factories in China and transfer technology to them in order to sell products there. Of course, then the Chinese copy the foreign designed products with their own companies. China’e entire economy is based on this. Had it not been for these protectionist laws, far, far less manufacturing would be taking place in China today.
If Chinese President Xi Jinping wants the USA to keep buying his countries crap,
he needs to rid the world of young Kim.
Else the Donald needs to have a very high import duty for ALL crap coming from mainland china.
That begs the question as to whom Red China would replace the Kim dynasty with. They most likely would not be amenable to having the South Korean government take over any more than they want Taiwan and Hong Kong to stay independent of their own dominion forever.
