$50,000 worth of surgery? Are you kidding?
Years of hormone therapy, required psych evals, and the surgery plus post-op care is way beyond that. Add in the days lost from work and 50k would only cover a fraction of the cost.
That won’t even cover the cost of cosmetics, nylons, wigs, shoes etc.
Ummm, our military services don't pay for cosmetics, nylons, wigs, etc... for men, women or trans...
