Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with a cargo trailer halfway in the building. Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.
Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbotts request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Boheme. That’s one exit south of Memorial on Beltway 8.
If it was Memorial, that would be a major road in an affluent area of town out for months.
There was at least one tornado touch down -- maybe two.
Damage in Erath, Vermilion Parish (minor).
But I thought I heard the freight train sound of the tornado -- off in the distance. It has been so quiet here, sound carries quite a distance right now -- you can't hear birds or other critters we normally have.
My two cats alerted me yesterday to something under the refrigerator.
It was just a small black snake that somehow got in when I probably left the door open carrying in groceries.
It is now a dead black snake. I don’t like coming upon them inside my home.

Terrible news for our friends in Houston—the heaviest rain of the day is developing, moving right at the city...
Re-run of Katrina?
Going east of Galveston forcing Bay into the city. What the hell the Bay is going into the City.
I was actually referring to flood risk. Houston had a significant flood in April 2016. One gentleman interviewed today in a very nice neighborhood said he only had two feet of water in his house last year. Today it reached 3ft and rising.
Bye.
Public schools (K-12) closed in Lafayette Parish, Vermilion Parish (previously ordered), Iberia Parish, St Martin Parish, and St Landry Parish.
I imagine schools in the Lake Charles area are closed tomorrow but not sure.
Lake Charles is between Beaumont, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana on I-10.
So much rain is the reason, but we could have tornadoes might be another reason...
Good grief- I just posted about that area about an hour ago. At that time it was a foot over record. That’s a big change. Fast.
Prayers up for all those affected by this disaster. May God be with Texas tonight!
“Large water releases now ongoing on Lake Conroe floodgates”
That’s one that goes around every time there is a major flood in Houston. The dam at Lake Conroe is a spillway, it has no floodgates to open
If I heard correctly, the release will be at 2am
Yea, my friend just posted that... along with a short video of her yard... the water’s almost up to the basketball hoop. Now she’s busy moving her valuables from her 2’nd floor up to her 3’rd floor.
I hope I’m wrong, but that amount of water flowing over load-bearing structures (like roadbeds and bridge foundations) is likely to result in AT LEAST some very careful review and analysis before the roads and bridges involved are allowed to carry traffic.
I wouldn’t really count on being able to drive on anything that’s flooded right now for a month.....after the water goes down.
I have family that lives on Lake Conroe - lake is over the bulkhead and they have approx. the same amount of water in the yard they had last May. The water will spill over the top of the dam if it goes any higher.
I’m sorry to say my dire predictions/forecasts for the Houston metro the past couple of days all came true...
I hope I am wrong with this one last prediction but judging by the radar at the moment over western Harris county....
ITS OVER..WE ARE GOING TO LOOSE MUCH OF HOUSTON AND THE WESTERN METRO TO A MASSIVE FLOOD ON BUFFALO BAYOU
