Your first hurricane?

I can tell you how much not fun it is to ride one out even without damage and how much more not fun it is to endure the days without power afterwards even with a generator in the waterlogged sweltering heat. Roads washed out and we were isolated. They focus on recovering high population density areas first as they should. I think it took about two weeks to get to us.

We lived in an acreage subdivision for Ike. Didnt take long for people to become wary of each other. We had a well and water so rigged a tap for others at the front gate. Didnt run generator full time so no water full time. Some got angry at that.

People stay because of looting, pets, freezers, etc.

Took us a week of hard work just to rake a few limbs and loads of twigs.

Some got angry at that.

Could have just been the stress of having gone through the storm and having to endure the aftermath, the sweaty discomfort, and then running out of water. But, poor planning on their part does not equate to obligation on your part, so they should have somehow managed to hold their tongues and their tempers. You didn't have to give them access to any water at all.
