Obama's message to Global Zero: progress slow but steady

In a statement read at the Global Zero summit in Paris today, President Obama repeated his commitment to the ambitious nonproliferation goals he set out in his Prague speech. "At our Nuclear Security Summit in April we will rally nations behind the goal of securing the world’s vulnerable nuclear materials in four years," Obama said. "We will strengthen the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and work with allies and partners to ensure that the rights and responsibilities of every nation are enforced. We will seek to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and negotiate a Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty. And our Nuclear Posture Review will reduce role and number of nuclear weapons in our national security strategy." He added, "Make no mistake, this will be hard. Progress will be neither quick nor easy. Rather than fixed deadlines, we will work toward reductions that are historic yet realistic, ambitious yet achievable. And as I’ve said, our ultimate goal may not be realized in our lifetimes." (Stay tuned to additional news from the Ploughshares-funded Global Zero conference from Joe Cirincione and Naila Bolus, who are in participating in the discussions in Paris.)

So let's see: Global Zero, an "anti-nuclear" organization, works with the Ploughshares Fund, one of the main organizations that pushed the Iran nuclear deal. Why is it that Valerie Plame keeps showing up wherever nukes are being proliferated to enemies of the U.S.?

Our Movement > Movement Leaders > Mr. Joseph Cirincione

Mr. Joseph Cirincione is president of the Ploughshares Fund. He is author of “Bomb Scare” and “Nuclear Nightmares,” and has written hundreds of articles on defense and nuclear issues. Previously, he served as senior vice president for national security and international policy at the Center for American Progress and as director for nonproliferation at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He teaches at the Georgetown University Graduate School of Foreign Service and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Cirincione is an expert advisor to the Congressional Commission on the Strategic Posture of the United States, and serves as a member of the Advisory Committee to the Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism.

Ploughshares provided a significant amount of funding to us and others... and carried out a lot of organizing on their own for passage of New START... We would not have had the resources to build the Generals/Admirals/Clergy voices including op-eds, fly-ins for Hill visits, letters, calls, etc without Ploughshares... They're in a decision mode now on how much to resource for supporting ATT... My request, if possible/appropriate, is a Thank You letter to them... Here (below)are names and address if possible... As always, thank you so much for considering...
