There are three types of citizen: Native born; Naturalized and Natural born. Native born would be, for example, one born of a one parent not a citizen or one born outside the country to citizens not abroad for reasons of state i.e. a diplomat or military assigned abroad.

One has to believe that the Founders believed there is a difference with Natural born being different from the other two. Why else would there have been a constitutional requirement for the Presidency.

Senators and Representatives are eligible with either of the other two since many of them were foreign born and thereby Naturalized.

These distinctions are a foreign language to the vast majority of our citizens.

There was no nation so the Founders could not have been NBC that is why the requirement did not go into effect until seven years after ratification. (I am convinced that this time period was put in to allow Alexander Hamilton’s eligibility.)

Natural is used in a different sense than normal. In other words, it does not mean that those born via C-section are ineligible nor that it means natural childbirth as opposed to artificial.

My understanding is that it means a person who is born in the country of citizens at the time of birth. This was designed to secure concerns about sovereignty and to exclude dual alligence/citizenship.

Removal of “citizen” from the requirement makes the condition meaningless and disregards the Founders’ intention altogether.
