Today is the day of the Great American Eclipse. Those along its path of totality will (if the clouds permit) see an amazing sight that will never be forgotten by those watching. Your humble correspondent knows this because he was once lucky enough to view a total solar eclipse.
The great thing about watching a total solar eclipse is that it absorbs all of your attention. One big reason is that it is indeed a miracle of nature. The moon is 400 times smaller than the sun but because it is also 400 times nearer to earth, both appear to be the same size which results in an almost perfect match when lined up during a solar eclipse. The odds of this coincidence is estimated to be incredibly small. In addition, total eclipses have only existed for a sliver of earth's history and in millions of years the moon will have moved too far away from earth for it to be happening again. So who could possibly detract from this magnificent celestial event? Atlantic magazine which completely trivialized the eclipse by politicizing it by making it all about the racial makeup along its path.

I read somewhere online that it affects blacks more than whites and also eclipses are caused by global warming. Amazing...but then you had a moron asking if the eclipse can be rescheduled to a non school day...

I think this guy is pulling EVERYONE’s leg. As I read through this, I kept saying “This so off-the-wall, it’s gotta be satire.” Yeah, I know, with liberals, it’s hard to make the differentiation.
He’s got a website at http://dummiefunnies.blogspot.com and to me, the name is a tip-off. The article I read he was ridiculing Rachel Maddow and her “We have Trump’s Taxes” blooper.
It looks like he sold the Atlantic a bill of goods and is fooling a lot of people on the Conservative side.

The next total eclipse will be in Texas on April 8, 2024. Only six years until the moon darkens the sun over our great cities…Dallas/ Ft Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston…chock full of Latinos, Blacks, Asians,and Whites, who manage to get along fairly well as long as everyone behaves themselves and remembers that Texas is an Open Carry state.
The reference measurement is the diameter as that is the critical value related to eclipses, not volumn.
Have you ever tried READING COMPREHENSION? You are confusing the Newsbusters writer with the author of the Atlantic article. Two completely DIFFERENT people. Even different genders.

I was hoping it was tongue-in-cheek, ignoring the astrophysics that setup this event long before humanity existed, and would have happened even without life on the third rock from the Sun.
