DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) The debate about Confederate statues in Dallas intensified on Monday as a group made up of predominantly African Americans called for the monuments to remain standing.
Several cities across America have now begun to remove or talk about removing Confederate markers shortly after a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville turned deadly.
Former city council member Sandra Crenshaw thinks removing the statues wont help.
Im not intimidated by Robert E. Lees statue. Im not intimidated by it. It doesnt scare me, said Crenshaw. We dont want America to think that all African Americans are supportive of this.
Crenshaw, along with some Buffalo Solider historians and Sons of Confederate Veterans are coming together to help protect the Confederate markers from toppling over in Dallas.
They feel the monuments, like the Freedmans Cemetery, tell an important story and help heal racial wounds.
Some people think that by taking a statue down, thats going to erase racism, said Crenshaw. Misguided.
City council member Philip Kingston disagrees.
What we dont do is leave up a monument that celebrates the very idea that some of us are not equal to the others, said Kingston.
He has now proposed a resolution that states the monuments should not be on public land and wants to create a task force to help decide the future of the statues.
These monuments distort history, they dont teach history, said Kingtson.
Crenshaw said the protests and efforts to remove the monuments take away from real change and progression.
Im very, very saddened by those people, particularly the African Americans, who are leading this agenda. There is a democratic process, said Crenshaw.
Mayor Mike Rawlings released a statement on Monday calling the events in Charlottesville horrifying and the white supremacists behind the events as pure evil.
He did not comment specifically on the monuments but has set a press conference for Tuesday at noon where he could further discuss the matter.
Good for them. At least some people recognize the threat that Censorship and the destruction of history will have on the future.
Whatever happened to what used to be a ubiquitous (attributed to Voltaire) quote in this nation?
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
At least these people are standing up for what is in the best interests of the Nation.
in the best sesame st. tradition, one of these things is not like the other ....
ROFL. Now we KNOW BLM is fake.
... Who did not campaign for office saying that if elected he would tear down every memorial he could find that related to the Confederate history of the state...
But now that he's there, he thinks he has license to do whatever he wants - and if you oppose him, you oppose the democratic process.
Crenshaw is -not- in favor of tearing the statues down.
Stupid Birkenstock-wearin’ idiot white pajama boy

Thank you.
At least some intelligent people understand that this is not about race, slavery, Confederates or monuments to a War that ended over 150 years ago.
It’s about stirring up trouble by communists. Remember that 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution; and it’s coming up in November, so expect things to ramp up in intensity until then.
What color is the Kingston guy I wonder?
Kingston, at left.
Gaaa - aaay
Philip Kingston is the slimeball here...
The Bureau of Land Management is *NOT* fake!
It's a somewhat reputable (by government standards, anyway) government agency responsible for administering millions of acres of federal lands that are not otherwise in national forest, grasslands, monuments, etc.

This is only about stirring up an issue for the Dims to use next fall, when the economy and everything else has improved enormously under Trump and the GOP, and they’re left with nothing to do but say,
“Look over there! I saw a racist!”
Love that!......;)
