I wonder if they will mention Jefferson's original language he submitted in the Constitution that was not ratified in Delaware; would have effectively eliminated slavery....everywhere.

Lesson: No side got the issue of slavery right.

I agree and for many Southerners who were slave owners, the slaves were actually collateral for debts and so even if they wanted to free their slaves they were not able to. Slaves were considered property and thus were tied to the mortgages on the plantations.Southern plantation owners were often in deep debt based on their extravagant lifestyles as outlined by Thomas Sowell in Black Rednecks and White Liberals.
